Search Continues for Missing Man After Accident at Vorarlberg Reservoir

Mon 6th Oct, 2025

The search operation for a 72-year-old man, who drove his vehicle into the Kops reservoir in Partenen, Vorarlberg, remains challenging. The incident occurred last Thursday, and extensive search efforts have been ongoing since then. Over the weekend, rescue teams employed advanced technology, including a specialized diving robot, sonar equipment, and several deep-sea divers, all in a bid to locate the missing individual.

Despite these efforts, the vehicle and its driver have yet to be found. Authorities have indicated that the man was en route to his hunting lodge when he lost control of his car while driving along the road that traverses the dam of the 1,809-meter-high reservoir. The car subsequently plunged down a steep embankment and sank into the water.

A fellow hunter who was driving behind the man witnessed the car's headlights disappearing into the reservoir and promptly alerted emergency services. The rescue mission has been hampered by poor visibility in the water, low temperatures, and the considerable depth of the reservoir.

Numerous personnel from the police, fire department, water rescue teams, and the Red Cross are actively participating in the ongoing search. The police have announced that the search will resume on Tuesday with additional technical equipment, as they remain determined to locate both the vehicle and the missing man.
