Sun 5th Oct, 2025

In a significant escalation of hostilities, the Russian military has initiated another wave of drone attacks targeting various locations across Ukraine. Reports indicate that the Ukrainian air defense systems detected multiple waves of combat drones entering from the east and south, prompting widespread air raid alerts throughout the nation.

Initial assessments from Ukrainian defense sources suggest that 73 drones were intercepted during the incursion, although these figures have not been independently verified. The city of Zaporizhzhia was particularly hard-hit, suffering a coordinated assault involving both drones and fighter jets. According to regional military officials, at least ten combat drones and guided bombs struck the city, resulting in one fatality and injuries to at least four others. The attack also caused significant disruptions to water and electricity supplies in several neighborhoods.

Additionally, major cities including Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odessa experienced similar drone assaults, though details regarding casualties and damage in those areas remain scarce at this time. Ukrainian air defense authorities have issued warnings about potential missile strikes following the launch of Tupolev Tu-95 bombers, which are capable of carrying cruise missiles. It remains unclear whether the deployment of these bombers was intended to distract Ukrainian defense forces.

In response to the ongoing Russian airstrikes, the Polish military has announced that Polish and allied aircraft are currently on standby. The attacks from Russia have also targeted regions near the Polish border, leading to heightened alert status for ground-based air defense systems in the area.
