Qatar Proposes to Gift Trump a Luxurious Boeing Aircraft

Reports indicate that former U.S. President Donald Trump may receive a Boeing aircraft from the Emir of Qatar's family as a lavish gift. This aircraft is intended to be modified as the new Air Force One and, following Trump's departure from office, it is expected to be donated to his presidential foundation, according to multiple U.S. media sources.

The aircraft in question is a long-range Boeing 747-8, often referred to as a "flying palace" due to its luxury features. Trump appeared to acknowledge these reports through his platform, Truth Social, although he did not specifically mention Qatar. He commented on the controversy surrounding the Defense Department receiving a 747 as a gift to replace the aging Air Force One, suggesting that critics, particularly from the Democratic Party, were upset about the lack of U.S. taxpayer funding for the aircraft. He remarked that the idea of receiving such a gift should not be seen as unusual.

The potential acceptance of this gift raises significant ethical and legal questions. There is uncertainty about whether the Trump administration is permitted to accept such an expensive gift from a foreign nation. Reports suggest that various legal departments within the government have reviewed and possibly approved the plan. The Democratic Senate leader, Chuck Schumer, expressed skepticism, noting that accepting the aircraft could represent foreign influence in U.S. politics.

In an official statement, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt assured that any gifts from foreign governments would be accepted in full compliance with applicable laws, emphasizing the administration's commitment to transparency.

The existing Air Force One has been operational since the 1990s, with two modified Boeing 747-200B aircraft currently in use. These planes have been customized to meet the specific needs of the U.S. President, featuring advanced communication technologies and security measures, including anti-missile systems, and the capability for in-air refueling.

During his first term, Trump had ordered two new aircraft from Boeing, but due to numerous delays and rising costs, it remains uncertain if either will be delivered before the end of his administration. Recently, tech billionaire Elon Musk was reported to be involved in expediting the delivery of a new presidential aircraft. In his personal capacity, Trump uses a Boeing 757, commonly known as "Trump Force One."
