Police Discover 50 Hand Grenades in Malmö Vehicles

Thu 2nd Oct, 2025

In a significant security operation on Wednesday evening, law enforcement officials discovered a total of 50 hand grenades hidden within two vehicles in Malmö, Sweden. The initial raid occurred around 10 PM in a parking garage beneath a residential building in Segevång. A subsequent search took place later that night in a car parked in an industrial area of Arlöv.

According to police spokesperson Filip Annas, the investigations leading to the seizures stemmed from an ongoing case involving the two vehicles. During the searches, officers found a substantial cache of hand grenades.

Due to the volume of explosives found, the incident has been classified as a severe criminal offense under the legislation concerning flammable and explosive materials. The police have stated that both locations were cordoned off, and the national bomb disposal unit was called in to secure the grenades.

This discovery adds to a troubling trend in Malmö, where a total of 73 hand grenades have been seized by authorities this year alone. Each confiscation is viewed as a potential prevention of violent acts, as highlighted by Rasem Chebil, the operational chief for serious crimes in Malmö. He expressed concern over the involvement of minors in such incidents, noting the serious risks they pose to themselves and others when handling these dangerous explosives.

Chebil emphasized the importance of addressing not only the removal of hand grenades from public areas but also the strategies involved in preventing their importation into the country. The Malmö police are currently engaged in collaborative efforts with the Swedish Customs Administration to tackle this issue effectively.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with this particular investigation. The police are continuing their inquiries to determine whether the grenades can be linked to any individuals involved in criminal activities.
