Mini Pony Rescued in Lower Austria Finds New Home

Wed 1st Oct, 2025

A miniature pony that was abandoned in the Gmünd district of Lower Austria has received a new lease on life at the Pfotenhilfe animal rescue sanctuary in Upper Austria. The pony, named Helene, has been successfully integrated into a herd at the sanctuary. However, she is suffering from laryngeal stridor, and a veterinary examination is scheduled to assess the need for potential surgery.

Helene was discovered alone in the Waldviertel region during the summer. Following legal protocol, she was placed under the care of local authorities for a month. Since no owner came forward during that period, Pfotenhilfe stepped in to rescue her and provide her with a permanent home among their equine residents.

Upon arrival at the sanctuary located in Lochen, Braunau district, Helene initially faced challenges. Her loud breathing, a symptom of her throat condition, caused some apprehension among the other ponies. Nevertheless, with time, she was able to adjust and has already formed a close bond with another pony named Tina.

The Pfotenhilfe organization emphasizes the importance of providing care for abandoned animals and works tirelessly to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for them. Helene's story highlights the ongoing need for animal rescue efforts and serves as a reminder of the responsibilities involved in pet ownership.

As Helene continues her recovery, the sanctuary is optimistic about her future, hoping that with proper medical attention, she will be able to thrive alongside her new friends.
