Life Sentences Handed Down for Gang-Related Murder in Central Stockholm

Tue 29th Apr, 2025

An 18-year-old man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for his involvement in a high-profile murder on Södermalm, along with two attempted murders in the Stockholm area that occurred in May of last year. The Stockholm District Court confirmed that the teenager, who was 17 at the time of the incidents, was the individual who wielded the weapon during all three shootings. The court referenced precedent from the Supreme Court concerning 'young individuals committing serious crimes' when determining the sentence.

Two other individuals, described by the court as 'adult perpetrators,' were sentenced to life in prison for their roles in the murder case. The incident took place on a Monday evening in May last year, when gunfire rang out on Allhelgonagatan in Södermalm. The area was bustling with people, and nearby, Götgatan was still active with commerce. Witnesses initially mistook the sound for fireworks, but soon realized that a man was injured on the street.

One witness later described the way the shooter held the weapon as being reminiscent of 'gangster style,' while another observed the suspect seeming oddly amused during the incident. 'We made eye contact, and it looked like he was smirking,' the witness recounted during police interrogation.

The victim, a 38-year-old man with a criminal background linked to the Dalennetwork, could not be saved. Following the shooting, police launched a significant operation to apprehend the assailant. The investigation revealed connections to gang-related activities. The day after the murder, a shooting occurred in Tyresö involving a grey Mercedes occupied by two gang-affiliated individuals, although no one was injured in that incident.

Less than two weeks later, a shooter disguised as a food delivery person targeted an apartment door in Flemingsberg. The residence belonged to the family of a man who had been involved in the previous murder attempt in Tyresö. This incident involved a total of 14 shots fired, several of which penetrated the door and struck the intended target's father, who fortunately survived.

During his time at a secure institution, the young man continued his pattern of violence, resulting in further legal consequences. He was previously convicted of attempted murder in September 2022 for stabbing a classmate in the arm and neck. In July 2023, while at the facility, he became involved in another conflict, assaulting another young resident and attacking a staff member who intervened.

On May 25, law enforcement executed a successful operation at an apartment near Globen, where the 17-year-old suspect was apprehended without incident. The now-convicted teen had prior convictions for various violent offenses. His series of violent acts escalated after he escaped from home, appearing in Copenhagen, where he is suspected of attempting to commit murder at a hair salon, an event also believed to be linked to gang conflicts. He remains a suspect in this incident.

The court has indicated that the 18-year-old has admitted to being the one who fired the weapon during the three shootings for which he has been charged and subsequently convicted.
