Klaus Webhofer to Host ORF Summer Discussions

Wed 7th May, 2025

The ORF Summer Discussions will see a new face this year, as Klaus Webhofer, the chief of internal politics at ORF, takes over as the host. Unlike past moderators who were often familiar faces from news programs and political talk shows, Webhofer is known for his behind-the-scenes role. He succeeds Martin Thür, who moderated the discussions in 2024.

Beginning on August 11, Webhofer will conduct interviews with leaders of the parties represented in parliament. The discussions will take place at the ORF media campus in Küniglberg, marking a return to this venue after the series was held elsewhere in 2022. Each week, a different prominent politician will visit the studio on Mondays at 9:05 PM, providing a platform for in-depth conversations.

Webhofer, a native of Merano, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has held various positions within ORF Radio and served as a correspondent in Germany. Since last year, he has been the head of the internal politics department at ORF News. Commenting on the upcoming discussions, he highlighted the significant period following recent government negotiations and the Vienna elections, noting that this will be an opportune moment to reflect on past events and discuss future challenges.

In support of Webhofer's new role, ORF's chief editor, Johannes Bruckenberger, praised him as one of the finest and most recognized journalists and interviewers within the organization. Bruckenberger emphasized Webhofer's extensive knowledge of Austria's political landscape and processes, which he believes make him exceptionally suited for this exciting opportunity.
