Denmark's Prime Minister Labels Drone Disruption at Copenhagen Airport as Major Threat

Tue 23rd Sep, 2025

Denmark's Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, characterized the recent drone incident at Copenhagen Airport as a significant threat to the nation's critical infrastructure. Speaking to the media, she emphasized that this event marks one of the most severe attacks on Denmark's vital systems to date.

Frederiksen highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting that it reflects the current challenges faced by societies in the modern world. She mentioned that authorities are not dismissing any potential suspects regarding the origins of the incident.

The incident occurred on a Monday evening when multiple large drones were observed flying in the vicinity of Copenhagen Airport, prompting an immediate halt to airport operations. The airport's official account confirmed the suspension of activities due to this unexpected aerial interference.

Following a brief closure, the airport reopened, although officials warned of ongoing delays and cancellations for several flights. Reports indicated that approximately 35 flights had been redirected as a precautionary measure during the disruption.

According to Danish police, the drones were operated by someone with considerable skill and capability. Chief Superintendent Jens Jespersen stated that the operator demonstrated significant knowledge and resources, which allowed for such an exhibition of aerial activity. The drones were seen moving from various directions and toggling their lights on and off before eventually vanishing after several hours.

As investigations into the incident continue, authorities are exploring all possible leads to determine who might be behind this operation. The situation has raised concerns within Denmark and across northern Europe, particularly in light of recent incidents involving drone activities and airspace violations.

On the same evening, a separate drone event was reported at Oslo Airport in Norway, resulting in traffic being limited to a single runway. These incidents have heightened security alerts in the region, particularly given recent concerns over potential sabotage activities linked to foreign entities.

The Danish government is now faced with the challenge of addressing these emerging threats to national security while ensuring the safety of air travel and infrastructure. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their vicinity as investigations progress.
