Austria is set to experience a notable drop in temperatures as a cold front moves in at the beginning of the week. The forecast indicates that cloudy skies, rain, and occasional showers will dominate the weather on Monday. However, by Tuesday, sunny conditions are expected to return, bringing with it warmer summer temperatures, as projected by Geosphere Austria.
Initially, the start of the week will be marked by overcast conditions. Residents in the southeastern regions should prepare for potential thunderstorms on Monday. The sun will make only brief appearances, with persistent rain anticipated throughout the day. By evening, the weather is expected to stabilize, with showers tapering off. Winds will be moderate to brisk, particularly in the northern and eastern parts, blowing from the west-northwest. Morning temperatures will range from 13 to 20 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs will reach between 21 and 25 degrees.
As the week progresses, a high-pressure system will usher in brighter conditions. On Tuesday, with increasing air pressure, the day is likely to be predominantly dry and sunny, although some shallow cumulus clouds may develop temporarily. The western regions of Austria are expected to enjoy the most sunshine. Winds will generally be light to moderate, with some areas in the east experiencing stronger gusts from the northwest. Morning temperatures will hover between 11 to 16 degrees, and daytime highs are forecasted to fall between 21 and 28 degrees.
Wednesday will see widespread sunshine thanks to the ongoing high-pressure influence. Any cumulus clouds that do form are expected to remain mostly harmless, although some may grow slightly more pronounced near the Alpine main ridge. For most regions, dry conditions are anticipated. Wind speeds will predominantly be calm. Early morning temperatures are projected to be between 8 and 16 degrees, with daytime temperatures ranging from 24 to 30 degrees.
On Thursday, which coincides with the Fronleichnam holiday, most areas are expected to bask in sunshine. Throughout the day, stronger cumulus clouds may develop in the north and later over the mountainous regions, potentially leading to brief rain showers or isolated thunderstorms. Winds will primarily come from the northwest to north, with occasional moderate gusts. Morning temperatures will range from 10 to 19 degrees, while daytime highs will vary from 23 to 31 degrees, depending on the region.
Friday will again feature predominantly sunny weather. In the lowlands, conditions are expected to be nearly cloudless. However, in the afternoon, some cumulus clouds may form in the west and southwest, particularly near the Alpine main ridge, leading to isolated showers or thunderstorms. Winds are expected to remain light, with temporary moderate breezes in the eastern lowlands. Morning temperatures will range from 9 to 17 degrees, with daytime highs generally between 21 and 28 degrees.
