28-Year-Old Remains in Critical Condition After Police Shooting in Vienna

A 28-year-old man from Serbia is currently in critical condition following a police shooting incident that took place in the Brigittenau district of Vienna. The shooting occurred during a police intervention on Sunday, where the individual sustained severe injuries. Authorities reported that the man underwent emergency surgery and has been placed in intensive care, where he remains in a precarious state.

The incident unfolded after the man's parents contacted emergency services, expressing concern for their son's well-being. They feared he was in a psychological crisis and might harm himself. Upon arriving at the apartment, officers from the Special Operations Unit, WEGA, encountered the man, who was reportedly armed with a knife.

Despite repeated verbal commands from the police, the man did not respond. Officers attempted to subdue him using a Taser multiple times, but these efforts proved unsuccessful. As the situation escalated, the man approached the officers, leading one officer, who was cornered, to discharge his firearm. This action resulted in life-threatening injuries to the 28-year-old.

Emergency medical personnel provided immediate care before transporting him to a local hospital. Investigations are currently underway to determine whether the man has a history of psychiatric issues or was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
